UAE Green Visa for Investors and Business Partners: 2026 Guide
Understand UAE Green Visa eligibility for investors and partners, five-year benefits, required documents, application steps and key differences from other residence routes.

The UAE Green Visa gives eligible investors and business partners a renewable five-year residence without requiring a sponsor inside the country. It is different from an ordinary investor residence linked to a company and from the longer-term Golden Visa.
What is the UAE Green Visa?
Green Residency is a self-sponsored residence category valid for five years and renewable while the holder continues to meet the applicable requirements. ICP identifies skilled workers, freelancers and self-employed people, and investors or business partners as its principal categories.
For investors and partners, current ICP guidance requires proof of investment or contribution to a UAE business venture together with the necessary licences and approvals from the relevant authorities. Holding a trade licence or appearing on a memorandum of association does not by itself guarantee approval.
Key benefits
- renewable residence for five years;
- no employer or other UAE sponsor required for the holder;
- eligibility to sponsor qualifying family members under the applicable rules;
- greater residence stability than a conventional company-linked visa; and
- a defined grace period after expiry or cancellation, subject to current immigration rules.
The Green Visa does not replace a trade licence, work permit, professional approval or company immigration file. Commercial and immigration permissions must be maintained separately.
Who may qualify as an investor or business partner?
The route may be relevant to a person who has made a genuine, documented investment or capital contribution to one or more licensed UAE businesses. The competent authority assesses the investment evidence, licences, approvals and the applicant's immigration record.
Where an applicant has interests in more than one licensed business, the authority may consider the total qualifying contribution in accordance with its investor-classification procedures. Applicants should not combine figures or assume eligibility without confirming how the authority will recognise each interest.
Documents commonly needed
- passport copy and compliant personal photograph;
- current UAE residence and Emirates ID, if applicable;
- valid commercial licence or licences;
- memorandum of association, share certificate or official partner records;
- evidence of investment or capital contribution;
- approval or investor-classification evidence from the competent authority;
- medical fitness, health insurance and Emirates ID documents; and
- marriage and birth certificates for accompanying family members.
Documents issued outside the UAE may require legalisation, Arabic translation or both. Names, passport details, share percentages and capital figures should be consistent across every record.

Typical application process
- Confirm the correct category. Decide whether the application is based on investment, partnership, skilled employment or freelance work.
- Audit the company records. Check the licence, memorandum, shareholder register and capital evidence for consistency.
- Obtain competent-authority approval. Secure the investor classification or approval required for the relevant emirate and licence.
- Submit the residence application. Use ICP or the applicable Dubai immigration channel.
- Complete residence formalities. This normally includes status procedures, medical fitness, insurance, biometrics and Emirates ID.
- Apply for dependants. Prepare legalised relationship documents and the required housing and insurance evidence.
Common reasons an application is delayed
- the licence, establishment card or passport is close to expiry;
- capital figures differ between the memorandum and authority records;
- the applicant cannot evidence the stated investment contribution;
- shareholder changes were never updated with all authorities;
- foreign documents are not properly legalised or translated; or
- the application is submitted under the wrong Green Residency category.
Does the Green Visa allow someone to operate any business?
No. Residence status and commercial permission are separate. The holder may only conduct activities covered by valid licences and approvals. Employment, freelance and regulated professional activities can also require their own permits.
