UAE Golden Visa for Entrepreneurs and Business Owners: 2026 Guide
A practical guide to the UAE's five-year Golden Residency entrepreneur category, project evidence, valuation, endorsements and application preparation.

The UAE Golden Visa entrepreneur category is designed for founders of qualifying innovative, technical or future-oriented projects. It should not be confused with an ordinary investor or partner residence obtained because someone owns shares in a conventional UAE business.
Under current ICP guidance, the entrepreneur route generally provides renewable five-year residence without a sponsor, subject to category evidence and approval.
Who is the entrepreneur category for?
The route is aimed at entrepreneurs with an innovative or technology-based project whose nature and value can be documented and supported by the relevant UAE authority or an accredited business incubator.
It may be relevant to founders who:
- own or lead an innovative startup or technology venture;
- can demonstrate the project's value and business substance;
- have support from a recognised incubator or competent emirate-level authority; and
- can supply consistent company, financial and personal records.
Current headline requirements
ICP's current overview lists the following principal evidence for entrepreneurs:
- a letter from an auditor confirming that the project value is at least AED 500,000;
- a letter from the relevant authority or an accredited business incubator confirming that the project is innovative, technology-based or future-oriented;
- a valid passport copy; and
- proof of UAE residence, such as property ownership or a tenancy contract, where required by the service.
Applicants must use the current official service card because evidence wording, application channels and supporting requirements may change.
Entrepreneur Golden Visa vs ordinary owner residence
| Issue | Entrepreneur Golden Residency | Ordinary investor or partner residence |
|---|---|---|
| Eligibility basis | Qualifying innovative entrepreneurial project and endorsements | Ownership or partnership linked to a licensed UAE business and its immigration eligibility |
| Typical duration | 5 years under current guidance | Depends on the authority and residence product |
| Sponsor | Self-sponsored | Usually linked to the business or establishment |
| Is any trade licence sufficient? | No | Company licensing and immigration requirements still apply |
| Special evidence | Project valuation and authority or incubator confirmation | Licence, ownership, establishment and immigration documents |

Does owning a startup guarantee eligibility?
No. A startup label, pitch deck, software product or trade licence does not by itself establish eligibility. The project must meet the category requirements and receive the required supporting evidence.
Applicants should be ready to explain:
- the problem the project solves;
- what is innovative or technology-based;
- the founder's role and ownership;
- project valuation and its supporting methodology;
- traction, customers, revenue, investment or intellectual property;
- the UAE operating plan; and
- how the project contributes to the relevant sector or economy.
Preparing a stronger application file
Keep company records consistent
The trade licence, memorandum, share register, establishment records and founder information should tell the same ownership story. Resolve outdated shareholder or manager information before application.
Document the project's value
A valuation letter should be supported by credible financial and commercial evidence. Depending on the business, this can include financial statements, funding documents, contracts, intellectual-property records, user metrics and asset information.
Explain innovation clearly
A strong file uses specific evidence instead of marketing phrases. Describe the technology, process, intellectual property or business-model innovation and show how it is implemented.
Identify the endorsement route early
Do not leave the incubator or authority letter until the end. Confirm which body is competent for the project, its assessment criteria and the documents it expects.
Typical application sequence
- Review the founder's project against the entrepreneur category.
- Update company and ownership documents.
- Prepare project, financial and valuation evidence.
- Seek the required incubator or authority confirmation.
- Submit nomination or eligibility through the correct channel.
- After approval, complete residence, medical fitness, insurance, biometrics and Emirates ID procedures.
- Arrange family applications where required.
Can the founder sponsor family members?
Golden Residency holders can generally sponsor eligible family members under the applicable rules. Each dependent still requires the relevant passport, relationship, medical, insurance and Emirates ID documentation.
Does Golden Residency replace the company licence?
No. The founder must continue to maintain the company's licence, approvals, tax registrations, accounts and employment obligations. Golden Residency concerns immigration status; it does not replace commercial compliance.
Common application weaknesses
- treating any SME or consultancy as an innovative project;
- using unsupported valuation figures;
- inconsistent shareholder or founder records;
- a generic business plan without evidence of implementation;
- assuming an incubator letter guarantees final approval;
- confusing ordinary investor residence with the Golden entrepreneur category; and
- allowing licences or supporting documents to expire during the process.
